Corporate Confession of Sin:

Heavenly Father, you have called us to pursue the new person that we are in Christ. The person you are renewing. Forgive us for not diligently applying ourselves to the task. We have been reluctant to put off old desires, thinking, and practices. They are too familiar, too comfortable. Soften our hearts that we might want what you want. Open our eyes that we might see ourselves as you see us, complete in Christ. As we quiet ourselves to confess how we have fallen short of that glorious goal, be at work by your Spirit. Show us our sin that we might be convinced that it is sin and quickly repent. This we ask in the name of Jesus, your Son, our Savior.

Silent Confession and Assurance of Forgiveness

Response: #649 - More Love to Thee, O Christ

Old Testament Reading: Psalm 37:3-6

Gospel Reading: I Corinthians 12:4-7

Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; born of the virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate: was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended to the dead; the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic* church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

*catholic here refers to the church universal, God’s people in all times and places.
